Our main business is called Ebenezer Properties! Isn't that a strange name for a property business? Here's the true story.... Many people wonder what’s the name Ebenezer all about? I’m here to blow the lid off the mystery. We all know that a name is important and for a child there is nothing worse than having a name that is open to finger pointing and mocking. Historically names had a meaning that was either a desire, proclamation or something to reflect the feelings of the parents at that time. In the same way a name for a business is just as important, after all it’s like a child that we nurture and help grow
The name Ebenezer doesn’t come from the love of Charles Dickens or as a celebration of Ebenezer Scrooge. Rather it is inspired by a little chapel in the countryside, an ‘Ebenezer Chapel’. The chapel was built at the time when there were more chapels than pubs in Wales, and the word Ebenezer comes from a story in the Bible where the prophet Samuel erected a stone as a monument to commemorate help from God as recorded in (Samuel 7:12-14). It reads, “Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, [a] saying, “Thus far has helped us.”. Ebenezer was adopted as a commemorative word and thanks for God’s help. In summary, the fictitious character Ebenezer Scrooge, who was transformed in Dicken’s ‘Christmas Carol’, lies under a stone in a dark grave, whereas the real Ebenezer is a stone proclaiming the goodness of God and stands firmly above the ground.
